Gogarty's traditional Irish Bar is designed in the late 19th Century style with flagstone floors and original artefacts can be found through the pub. The walls pay tribute to Irish cultural icons from Gogarty himself to Joyce, Beckett, Behan and many other famous Irish writers. The original pub was first opened in 1838 and was refurbished and renamed the Oliver St John Gogarty in 1994. The downstairs bar has a life sized Bronze statue of Gogarty, commissioned by owner Martin Keane and crafted by local Dublin Sculptor Hugh Hanratty in 2005.

Visitor Comments

But don’t just take our word for it, look at what our guests are saying (from tripadvisor.com February - October 2006 )

We visited the Oliver St John Gogarty pub - again excellent pub - small irish band - fantastic. Ate there the following day and all I can say is it was the best Beef and Guiness casserole I have ever tasted - Yum. Rose UK ( Feb 06)

I was there last week with my better half - we ate at Oliver St John Gogarty on Temple Bar. The carvery was particularly good value. A good mix of Irish and other dishes.  B C Durham August 2006

We found The Oliver St. John Gogarty Bar. The place was packed. We managed to squeeze our way in through the crowd to a little spot near the wall. Eventually, someone left so we grabbed a couple of stools. We had intended on having a quick Guinness, listening to a little music and scooting out. We ended up staying longer. The band was so great. They really interacted with the crowd. It was obvious that there were tons of repeat patrons in the crowd, not just locals, either. Atlana July 2006

Smoking Areas

The smoking ban, which was introduced in Ireland in 2004 means that is no longer acceptable to smoke in any enclosed public areas, including Bars & Restaurants, so they remain smoke free.

However here at the Oliver St John Gogarty in Temple Bar we have not one but two heated indoor beer gardens, so you can still smoke without having to leave the premises. On the other hand if you prefer clean fresh unpolluted air, then our indoor bars and restaurant are smoke free for your pleasure.
